CREATIVE STATEMENT

As a contemporary artist, I feel blessed to explore and express emotions which surround me in this world. Painting sets me free to express myself and explore the world that surrounds me. Living in Santa Fe, New Mexico the visual vista landscape is ingrained in my existence. The freedom of open space, sky and color, I love it! I work both on-site, plein air and in-studio. The energies of each environment seem to feed off each other and help create paintings that speak to me. It is most important that my work expresses more than just a picture. I am taken by my imagination and fully engage in the creative process by standing aside and letting my intuitive energy guide me. When I begin a new work I start with a feeling or color in my mind. As the painting develops its own existence it speaks to me through the colors and forms that emerge on the canvas. I realize this has happened when my experience of time while working gets distorted, hours seem like minutes. My immersion or focus in my art allows me to get completely outside of myself and this world. The painting guides me to its final destination.

I am particularly interested in the exploration of the emotional status of color. I believe that color somehow pierces through to our subconscious and has an effect on our emotions. This seems to appear with the stimulation of deep memories that become realized in the conscious mind. Through various technique of color presentations the whole range of emotion and memory are brought into our conscious self. I know I’ve accomplished this when I see the reactions of collectors saying “I’ve seen that place”.
